Every activity type now has its own default color. When you place a new activity on the canvas it is rendered in the color for its type, so you can distinguish all activities without reading a single label. Until now all activity types shared one default color.
Component: Web-based Workflow Designer
Applications
A consultant opens a customer workflow they did not build and sees immediately where the conditions, tasks and web service calls are.
An administrator scans a large workflow and spots every parallel task and every condition at a glance, to check the process branches.
A configurator places several activity types while building a workflow, and the canvas stays readable as it grows.
Benefits
You orient yourself faster on complex or unfamiliar canvases
The color language is the same in every workflow, so it is predictable
Here's how
The default colors are applied automatically to newly placed activities. Time Delay and Wait for Event share the same color. Nothing has to be configured.
Activity type | Default color |
|---|---|
Start and End | Blue |
Task | Yellow |
Parallel Task | Orange |
Condition | Red |
Cyan | |
Assign Data | Pink |
Web Service | Green |
Time Delay | Black |
Wait for Event | Black |
The following screenshots shows, how the default colors are shown on the workflow canvas:

You can still change the color of an individual activity by hand after placing it, exactly as before.
Existing workflows keep the colors they already have. Only a workflow migration applies the new type-specific defaults to the activities it contains.
