Windows Explorer Client lets you access documents archived in DocuWare via Windows Explorer. Now you can copy, rename, and archive in Windows Explorer, as you would with other documents.
For example, you can drag & drop documents from the file system to DocuWare or export from DocuWare to the file system. You can use Windows Explorer Client to search for documents in DocuWare and store them in a file cabinet or document tray.
Windows Explorer Client offers an additional view of DocuWare file cabinets. Within the folder structure of Windows Explorer you will find a DocuWare node and below this the document trays and individual file cabinets with the Index Field entries from DocuWare as folder and document name respectively.
Your DocuWare folder structure includes for example the index entries for the Company fields on the top level, the Contact field on the second level, and the Document type field on the third level. In Windows Explorer Client there is then one folder for each company at the top level of this file cabinet, followed by folders for the company's contacts, and below this folders for the different document types.
In Windows Explorer Client, the index entry from the field for which the Document name option is enabled is used as the file name for a document in DocuWare Administration.
The folder structure in which the file cabinets are displayed together with the documents they contain is defined using a folder structure which you create in DocuWare Configuration. This is a result list in a folder structure. In a folder structure, you define the index fields whose entries are used for the folder names in Windows Explorer Client.
Working with DocuWare Windows Explorer Client
As in Windows Explorer you can drag & drop files and use Window Explorer shortcut keys like Ctrl+X / Ctrl+V and Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V. A context menu is also available at both folder and file level.
When you work with DocuWare Windows Explorer Client, your rights as a DocuWare user are taken into account. If you do not have the appropriate authorizations, you will not be able to carry out the functions described below.
Setting Up Client Logging
To check for errors, it can be helpful to set up client-side logging. To do this, proceed as follows:
Open the file DocuWare.WindowsExplorerClient.dll.settings from the installation directory of Windows Explorer Client:
C:\Programs\DocuWare\Windows Explorer ClientInsert the following code before the last tag (</UserSettings>).
<loggingManagement mode="on" trace="on">
<loggingModule assembly="DocuWare.WindowsExplorerClient">
<publisher assembly="DocuWare.Common" type="DocuWare.Common.Logging.FilePublisher" logLevel="Debug" fileName="C:\DWWECLog.log" maxFileSize="30000" enhancementMethod="newFile" maxFileNumber="50" />
</loggingModule>
</loggingManagement>
Special requirements
DocuWare Client license
On a machine with a DocuWare Client license, a user can use Web Client and Windows Explorer Client in parallel.
If Windows Explorer is opened by a user more than once on the same PC, only one DocuWare Client license is used.To enable the DocuWare documents to be opened from Windows Explorer Client (both read-only and read-write), you must specify a program in Windows Explorer that should always be used to open DocuWare documents with the file extensions for these file types. If you only want to open the documents in the Web Client viewer, this is not a requirement.
