# Forms: Additional option to filter select lists

Forms introduces the **Prefix-only Search** option for dropdown fields based on select lists. This feature is to enhance the usability where wildcard search, introduced with version 7.12 for dropdowns, does not offer intended results, e.g. with number-oriented entries.

Application

- A user wants to search for example for a value that starts with 6 and enters therefor “6” in the dropdown field. With the wildcard search from version 7.12, the select list offers all entries containinga 6. With the new **Prefix-only Search** option, the select list only shows the entries startingwith 6.

Benefits

- Allows users to filter values exclusively based on their prefix
- Provides a more efficient search mechanism for numerical data

Here's how

Enable the **Prefix-only search** option in the settings for dropdown fields that are based on a selection list.
