# DocuWare Request - general

> [!NOTE]
> DocuWare Request is discontinued
>
> As of DocuWare 7.14, the DocuWare Request module is discontinued. The Request configuration page, DocuWare Configurations > Request, is no longer displayed by default. DocuWare Cloud organizations that use Export as backup (with electronic signing) within an existing Request configuration are not affected. If you require the DocuWare Request functionality, contact DocuWare Support to have DocuWare Request re-enabled.

Create important documents in a standalone digital file cabinet. With the integrated browser, external service providers or customers can search and view documents – without DocuWare or other additional software.

Re-import is also possible: Add the documents from a standalone file cabinet to your document management system again.

## Application

Standalone file cabinets simplify the exchange of information. In the case of a financial audit, for example, you compile all the relevant documents for a fiscal year, export them to a Request file cabinet and hand it to the auditor on a USB stick.

## Default settings

The following permissions and settings are required to use DocuWare Request:

- Functional right: Users who are to see and use the Request area in DocuWare Configuration must have the Configure Request functional right (DocuWare Configuration > User Administration).
- File cabinet rights: To export a document to a standalone Request file cabinet, the user performing the export must have the Search and Display documents file cabinet rights for the source file cabinet (DocuWare Configuration > File cabinets > Permissions). To import documents from a Request file cabinet, the file cabinet profile File cabinet owner must be assigned to the user performing the import for the target file cabinet (DocuWare Configuration > File cabinets > Permissions).
- Display in Web Client: The Export as DocuWare Request function must be visible in the result list options. It can be displayed in the menu or as a button (DocuWare Configuration > File cabinets > Dialogs > Result > Functions of the result list).

For technical reasons and from DocuWare Version 6.12, only Request file cabinets can be imported that were created with DocuWare Version 6.12 or later.

A Request file cabinet can be created with any DocuWare license. No DocuWare license is required to access documents in a standalone Request file cabinet.

Note for customers using DocuWare in an on-premises system: The Request file cabinets must be stored in a central storage location that the users access for the download. If the server and client machine are in the same network, you can set up a storage location with a UNC connection. Otherwise, you need an FTP server.

You can set up a storage location in DocuWare Administration at system level under the item Storage locations. Specify Type: File system and Used for: DocuWare Request. Make sure that you do not enter a local path, but rather a UNC path, such as \\computer\requestshare, or an FTP directory. The FTP directory must be password-protected. When entering a path for an FTP directory, use the following syntax: ftp://adminName:adminPassword@server-name/subdir/

If both FTP and UNC storage locations are set up, the system automatically selects the FTP directory.

If no storage location is configured, DocuWare Request cannot be called up.

## Supported versions: DocuWare Cloud + 7.14 + 7.13 + 7.12 + 7.11 + 7.10
