# DocuWare for Outlook - general

DocuWare for Outlook is the add-in to import email from Microsoft Outlook. You may store emails and their attachments from various devices directly into DocuWare without leaving the Microsoft Outlook environment. Select a DocuWare document tray or a file cabinet and index the documents.

Creating a store configuration in DocuWare for Outlook Add-in is not required, since emails and attachments can be stored manually by the user. However, if you already have Connect to Outlook configurations set up for your organization, you can access them directly in the Add-in.

> [!NOTE]
> Compare the [features](/help/docs/docuware-for-outlook-compare-features) of DocuWare Connect to Outlook with those of DocuWare for Outlook add-in.

DocuWare for Outlook is available in the Outlook Add-in Library, which can be accessed through:

- the web browser version of Microsoft Outlook
- the local desktop Microsoft Outlook application (both for Windows and MacOS).
- the latest version of Microsoft Outlook mobile, available on Android and iOS (with limited functionality as stated in the [system requirements & limitations](/help/docs/docuware-for-outlook-add-in-general#system-requirements-limitations) chapter below).

On the DocuWare side, depending on the type of DocuWare system you are using, to access and use the DocuWare for Outlook Add-in, you need:

- DocuWare Cloud and DocuWare on-premises user: a user account for a DocuWare system
- DocuWare on-premises user:
  - a DocuWare Connect to Outlook license. The same license is valid for both Connect to Outlook and DocuWare for Outlook.
  - a DocuWare desktop setup of the latest version

## System requirements & limitations

Microsoft Outlook is used on a wide range of devices. Depending on the operating system and Outlook version you are using, certain limitations may affect the availability of specific features in DocuWare for Outlook.

### General prerequisites

- **Third-party cookies**: To use the add-in, cross-site cookies and third-party cookies must be enabled, as required by Microsoft and Outlook. In Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, third-party cookies are enabled by default. In Safari, however, cookies from other websites are disabled by default; users must enable them to be able to use the DocuWare add-in.
- **No SSO login with multiple accounts**: User login may fail if SSO is used as an authentication method and the user has multiple Microsoft accounts registered in their browser. In this case, the DocuWare add-in for Microsoft Outlook cannot display the list of available accounts to complete the login process. Only a grey blank page is displayed.

There are two workarounds to perform the login if users have multiple Microsoft accounts:
  - Users use the usual login with username and password, or
  - Users remove all additional Microsoft accounts from the browser, leaving only the desired one available. After that, the SSO login can be completed.

### System requirements

DocuWare for Outlook is a Microsoft Store app and requires a Microsoft 365 work or school account.

Under Microsoft’s current policies, Microsoft Store apps such as DocuWare for Outlook cannot be used to manage documents in personal Microsoft accounts (e.g., outlook.com or hotmail.com) or in third-party accounts (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo). Consequently, DocuWare for Outlook cannot access Gmail or other non-Microsoft accounts in any version of Outlook.

This limitation is specific to Microsoft Store apps and differs from the behavior of the desktop application DocuWare Connect to Outlook.

To check if your operating system is supported and if your app version provides all features, refer to the list below:

1. Find your operating system.
2. Select the text block with your preferred Outlook version.
